Founded in 1871, Tamina grew alongside the railroad running through southern Montgomery County, becoming one of Texas's historic Black Freedom Colonies. Tamina Village in Golden Light imagines an early day in the life of this close-knit community, where work, worship, education, family, and land came together to create something meant to endure.

A steam locomotive moves past stacks of timber at the edge of town while workers tend to the day's business along the tracks. Follow the dusty road farther into the village and Tamina begins to unfold: families gathering outside the church, children making their way toward the schoolhouse, neighbors visiting the general store, and riders traveling between homesteads beneath towering pines.

Closer to home, the stories become quieter. Laundry dries beside the garden. Chickens wander through the yard. Neighbors linger on front porches while vegetables grow behind simple wooden fences. Warm golden light settles across the community, illuminating the everyday rhythms of families establishing homes, traditions, institutions, and livelihoods in the generations following Emancipation.
